Over the past couple of months I have been getting out my paints again and also trying out drawing or copying from a book I have. So I have a mix of art journal pages to share with you today.Having my little puppy Gigi now I have to make sure I have taken her for a walk before I sit down in my craft area otherwise……….she gets bored and up to mischief.Fortunately after a 30 minute fast walk she is happy to collapse and snooze while mum plays with her stuff.
January 2017 a new year and while I am not doing resolutions I decided that I would follow a trend of folk I know that choose a word to guide, inspire and encourage them throughout the year. I chose Create because I felt that it could have so many different meanings for me. For example I would like to create a fitter me; a pretty back garden, a newly decorated bedroom and of course more art.
My first play day was with the Gelli plates which I have not used for ages and ages. I had a wonderful time making lots of printed papers that I could use for card making and for my art journalling. I decided that the kitchen was the best place to spread out and have fun so away I went, spending most of the day creating getting paint on my fingers and everywhere else ha ha
A couple of days later I decided to use some of my pretty papers and made a range of cards ready for almost any occasion
So My year is of to a good start. More exciting things to come soon in the next chapter
Over the last couple of weeks I have been doing some more art journal pages. A group I belong to online (Colour Me Positive) do a weekly challenge around various quotes. It has been good to get creative again. I have also been getting busy in the garden , tidying it up and getting ready for winter. it is another form of creativity I feel with a practical edge of course. This week I have planted out lots of brassicas- broccoli, cabbage, kale ,spinach and silver beet. They will give me the energy and vitamins to get through winter. her’s my art contributions, bye till next time.
“Every bit of you is beautiful”
Until you spread your wings you won’t know how far you can fly”
There is no path to happiness. HAPPINESS is the path
I have been letting that creative side of me shine this month. I almost always work with bright bold colours but this time both pictures are darker or monotone. I like to push my own boundaries. I found a rather gorgeous black and white picture in a magazine and have had it in my stash pile for ages until inspiration struck last week.
Then my next art journal challenge was about being fearless “Everything you want is on the other side of FEAR”. Jack Canfield. I had the opportunity to buy some black gesso and new art products while away over the weekend so yesterday I put this together. I am very happy with both.making progress.:)
I have been exploring my creative side through Art Journalling over the past year and I enjoy this way of expressing myself. I now belong to several groups with members world wide and it is fun to see how each of us works on a theme and come up with totally different art.The latest group I have joined gets a new word or phrase each Friday. There is no pressure some people are right up to date I am a little behind to due life getting busy. However I finished one this morning after working on it for a few days , then another one fell into place very quickly. I thought you might like to see what I have been up to over January and February 2016.
Christmas day is over once again and most of us are either breathing a sign of relief, enjoying our families being home for the holidays or taking part in the madness of the Boxing day sales. It is a beautiful summers day here in Hawera and my neighbours are out mowing lawns probably prior to going away on holiday. I hosted Christmas Lunch for my siblings this year and it was great to have them and their families gather around my table celebrating Christmas and catching up with each other.
I hope that for most of you today is a day of relaxation I can not think of anything worse than to go out shopping for “bargains” in crowded shopping malls or town centres. That is not what Christmas is about. I am not overly religious but over the past few years have come to the realisation that we can live life much more simply and in a less stressful way if we do not buy into all the hype.
When I was a child our family did not have a lot of money so we used to make our presents for each other and it was so good for us to be creative and also know that the gift you received had been made especially for you. I remember one year using my pocket money to buy little calendars which I then attached to pictures I had made and stuck on cardboard. I received a couple of those types of gifts this year and it was lovely.
Of course I still enjoy getting all of my presents regardless as I know my family and friends pick special things for me. I am a Christmas Child at heart and always have the decorations up and send out Christmas Cards. This year I made about 40 Christmas cards and enjoyed the act of crafting them and adding embellishments and then choosing who to give each card to.
In a few days it will be another New Year and my hope is for a more peaceful year for the world, for good health, happiness and prosperity for my family and friends and all of you who read my blogs. May 2016 show that the Human Race can get their Act together and work one small step at a time to make our world a better place.
Over the past month I have joined an art journal group challenge online. I felt it would help help me focus and also encourage me to stretch myself and play a little. It is a great group , very supportive and I have enjoyed seeing all the different artists and their takes on each challenge. It is called “Falling in Love with Art Journalling – Fall Challenge 2015 “. Here is what I have done so far see if you can guess what each challenge was. Some are more obvious than others.
