Puppy Love

gigi-12-january-2017

This lovely little lady joined my family on the 12th of January. She is a miniature poodle and I have named her Gigi. At 7 months old it is like having a mischievous toddler around the house and also involves house training oops a few puddles but it’s getting better. She has brought laughter into my house again. I am also getting out for walks every day as she is great motivation. Yesterday was a beautiful summers day so we went to the park. Gigi is full of energy for  an hour and then plops down for a wee nap until its time for the next burst. The recycling bin newspaper has taken a few hits bit its relatively easy to clean up. ha Ha she also uses my circular ottoman as part of her race track she is so quick its hard to get her on video as I am busy laughing. Oscar the puddy tat is not so impressed and only comes in at night when she is asleep in her crate. So he lives in the front gardens and Gigi has the back yard. She is actually good with cats unless they run away which Oscar does. Not too worry early days yet. Catch you all later bye

“Create”My word for 2017

print-2-jan2017

January 2017 a new year and while I am not doing resolutions I decided that I would follow a trend of folk I know that choose a word to guide, inspire and encourage them throughout the year. I chose Create because I felt that it could have so many different meanings for me.  For example I would like to create a fitter me; a pretty back garden, a newly decorated bedroom and of course more art.

My first play day was with the Gelli plates which I have not used for ages and ages. I had a wonderful time making lots of printed papers  that I could use for card making and for my art journalling. I decided that the kitchen was the best place to spread out and have fun so away I went, spending most of the day creating getting paint on my fingers and everywhere else ha ha

A couple of days later I decided to use some of my pretty papers and made a range of cards ready for almost any occasion

cards-for-all2017.

So My year is of to a good start. More exciting things to come soon in the next chapter

Bye………

Getting paint and glue on my fingers …

Over the last couple of weeks I have been doing some more art journal pages. A group I belong to online (Colour Me Positive) do a weekly challenge around various quotes. It has been good to get creative again. I have also been getting busy in the garden , tidying it up and getting ready for winter. it is another form of creativity I feel with a practical edge of course. This week I have planted out lots of brassicas- broccoli, cabbage, kale ,spinach and silver beet. They will give me the energy and vitamins to get through winter. her’s my art contributions, bye till next time.

Walks on the beach

Yesterday was a lovely spring day sunny but with a fresh breeze. A friend and I decided to take our little dogs for a walk and blow the cobwebs away. I packed a picnic for us and after our walk we all sat in the sun looking at the views. These are the times that I really appreciate being “retired” as I can just do what ever the impulse is and today was the beach.  I took lots of photos of Poppy  and her little friend Olley. Poppy is a bit of a Prima Donna and does not get her feet wet whereas Olley was all for it after his first fright when a wave nearly got him. he had not been to the beach before. The river was easy and he was happy paddling while Princess Poppy stayed on dry land. 🙂 It is lovely to think of the happy warm days coming especially when today has turned overcast and cool.

Good morning everyone. I am lucky to be nice and warm inside as outside it is vey cold wet and windy today. At least we are not snowed in like a lot of the rest of New Zealand.

I am exercised to write today because there was an item on the news last night and in the paper this morning about taxing our food! This upsets me because we are becoming such a Nana state and no one takes responsibility for what they do. The answer to everything seems to be tax it!. I have to explain to those of my followers in the rest of the world that all our food is already taxed at 15% GST  so why more? The excuse proponents use is that it worked for smokers and has dropped the numbers of smokers and saved many dollars in health so they think they should tax dairy food, eggs and meat as they have fat in them, of course salt and sugar has also been mentioned and fast food. these taxes will supposedly stop obesity and mean savings in our Health budget.

My real concern is that we need these food groups to survive ( smoking is a choice eating is not) I also know that now I am on a limited income I do not eat meat every day as I can not afford to it is already quite expensive. I do enjoy eggs as they hold all essential proteins, fats and vitamins. dairy I eat a little of but that’s because I have never liked milk even as a child. There are many people in New Zealand that are on fixed incomes or low incomes that can not afford  good quality food now like fresh vegetables fruit and meat  so imagine what taxes will do. we will have anemic people who will have no energy or strength to get up and move will that help.

I firmly believe that there are many other underlying reasons why people in the western world are becoming so obese, the highly processed food, the opportunity to get fast food, the fact that portion sizes have got bigger and bigger and the additives to food must all play a part.  I feel that there is too much emphasis on the way we look and modern social media does not help in this. The dietary businesses makes huge money from our need to get “slim” and fit in.

I think we all need less stress in our lives, less seeking of “happiness’ and instead seek contentment with our lives and getting back to the simpler ways of living. If we were all able to achieve this maybe the world would be a healthier and better place.

Swimming in Winter

This week I decided it was time to venture out to my local swimming pool and try a different exercise regime.  I like being in water as you can see in this photo although I am not a very good swimmer I can manage a very slow breast stroke.

I meet an acquaintance in the supermarket last week who had just retired and she was telling me about how she was going to the pool each day, meeting lots of people and getting fitter. She said she was walking in the pool rather than swimming. Why didn’t I join them she asked? Hmm I thought,  why not!

So on Monday I rang my new swimming buddy and told her that I was coming. I knew otherwise I would chicken out . It was a cold grey miserable sort of day but off I went. It was great the pool area is lovely and warm to walk into and the water was comfortable to swim in ( tepid )  the added bonus was a hot pool to warm up in afterwards where everyone gathered and caught up with news.

I came home tingling and feeling really alive.

Why is it that we often need that PROD from someone else to get us going? Many times I have thought about going somewhere or to something but I don’t because I do not want to go on my own. I am usually a confident person but there are places or occasions when a companion by my side helps. Yesterday I headed back to the pool this time taking a friend who also needed my “prod” to go so I am now spreading the word. My goal is to go a minimum of twice a week if I make three days a week that will be an added bonus.

cheers Lynne
